Your power split
You have both powers on every line! The numbers show how much you use each one, and the name says what kind of hero that makes you.
Star sign power · optional
A grown-up can add the child's star sign to give the hero an element power (Fire, Earth, Air or Water). Only the star sign is saved, never the birthday. Star signs are just for fun.

What this is
Hexacter Heroes is a short, playful self-reflection activity for children aged about 6–12. It uses the same six dimensions and letter codes as the adult Hexacter test (e.g. ISFJ-TH), with simplified wording, a 5-face answer scale and original cartoon superheroes. Every result leads with strengths. The heroes are original characters, not based on any film, comic or TV franchise.
Please keep in mind
- It's a conversation starter, not a label. Children's preferences are still forming and often change.
- It isn't a psychological or educational assessment, and it hasn't been validated for children. Don't use it for diagnosis, placement, grouping or discipline.
- Younger children (6–8) tend to answer the way they'd like to be. Choose "a grown-up will read with me" and read the statements neutrally.
- Star signs are included for fun only. There is no scientific link between birth date and personality.
How it's scored
There are 4 statements for each dimension, 2 worded toward each side. Faces score from −2 to +2. Each line shows both powers as two numbers that add up to 100, so every child has some of each. The name on each line (for example "Party Starter", "Deep Thinker" or "Anywhere Friend") changes at the published "preference clarity" cut-offs used in type research, and the middle has a name of its own, so a balanced result never reads as a low mark. An exactly tied dimension takes the letter from the most recent "So me!" or "Not me!" answer on it.
Research behind the quiz
- Same method as the adult test, made shorter. Each of the six dimensions is scored as a continuous percentage, and the letters only summarise the side. Studies find personality preferences are continuous rather than true "types" (Arnau et al., 2003; McCrae & Costa, 1989).
- Balanced wording. Two statements point each way on every dimension. That matters more for children: in a large study of 10- to 20-year-olds, younger respondents showed much stronger "agree with everything" answering, and their answers hung together less well (Soto, John, Gosling & Potter, 2008).
- Fewer statements means less precision. With only 4 statements per dimension and a 5-face scale, the result is a rough sketch, not a measurement. Please treat it as a conversation starter.
- Answer check for grown-ups. The notes for grown-ups say whether a child agreed with nearly everything or picked "In between" for most statements. The quiz is too short to reliably spot random answers, so it doesn't try (Dunn et al., 2018).
- Hero names for each power change at the published "preference clarity" bands (Schaubhut, Herk & Thompson, 2009). Most people sit near the middle on at least one dimension, so balanced names like "Anywhere Friend" and all-round heroes are normal (Bess & Harvey, 2002). There is never a score out of five or a grade.
- A professional children's type questionnaire exists: the Murphy-Meisgeier Type Indicator for Children, for ages 7–18. Research on it shows reasonable but mixed reliability, with Sensing/Intuition the least stable. Hexacter Heroes isn't that instrument and hasn't been validated.
- Star signs are just for fun. A study of more than 14,000 people found no link between birth date and personality (Hartmann, Reuter & Nyborg, 2006).
Full methods, an introduction to how personality tests are evaluated, and all references (with links) are on the adult test's Methods page.
